Check the provider and service

Understand registration scope and funding fit.

Provider status matters

Provider registration status and registration scope matter for some supports and funding arrangements. Before agreeing to a service, ask the receiving business for its legal name,  relevant registration information and confirmation that it can deliver the proposed support under the applicable rules. Registered status does not mean that every service offered by a business is covered by its registration.

Plan management arrangements can affect which providers may deliver and claim particular supports. Rules also change, and some services have specific registration requirements. The provider should confirm current requirements for the actual support rather than relying on a general statement about plan management. Capital Referral Network should check the relevant register when describing a provider as registered, but a referral is not a guarantee of future registration status, funding coverage or quality of every service encounter.

Questions worth asking

Ask the business to identify the entity that will enter the service agreement and the staff responsible for delivering support. Confirm which services it can deliver, when it can start and what happens if circumstances change. Where registration is required, ask it to confirm the relevant scope. A trading name or association with a registered business is not enough to establish the status of the entity delivering the service.

Agree to the service with clear information

Review the written service description, rates, cancellation conditions and any travel or reporting charges. Ask which costs are funded and which you may need to pay personally. If you are unsure, clarify the arrangement with the appropriate person before support begins. A referral does not authorise a provider to claim against a plan or commit you to a package of services.
