Allied health provider introductions

A first conversation about assessment or therapy

Tell us which discipline you are seeking

An enquiry may involve occupational therapy, psychology, speech pathology, physiotherapy or  another allied health discipline offered by participating providers. Tell us the discipline you are seeking, the broad purpose of the appointment and your preferred location or appointment  format. You may ask about assessment availability or ongoing therapy without uploadingreports at the first step.

The receiving clinician determines clinical suitability, professional scope, assessment methods and the need for further information. Ask about professional registration or credentials, report fees, waiting times, travel and telehealth arrangements. Capital Referral Network does not diagnose conditions, choose treatment or determine funding entitlement through this introduction. If a report is needed for a particular purpose, explain that purpose to the clinician and confirm that the proposed service can address it before agreeing to costs.

Prepare for the first conversation

Think about the purpose of the appointment and what you want to understand or achieve. You may want to discuss a functional assessment, communication needs, mobility or a particular difficulty affecting everyday life. Describe the purpose in general terms at the enquiry stage. A clinician should determine which assessment or intervention is appropriate within their professional scope.

Understand the proposed engagement

Before accepting an appointment, confirm who will provide the service, where it will take place and what is included in the fee. Ask whether written reports, feedback sessions and travel are charged separately. If you need a report by a particular date, check availability directly. An introduction does not reserve an appointment or guarantee that a report will support a particular funding decision.

Share records through the right process

Clinical records should be requested only where necessary and handled through a suitable process. You can ask why a report is needed and who will have access. Give the clinician relevant information after the receiving service and purpose have been confirmed. Please keep detailed medical records out of the initial website enquiry.
